Die Schweizerische Zeitschrift für Sozial- und Kulturanthropologie lädt zur Einreichung von Vorschlägen für ein Special Issue (offenes Thema) ein.

Die Special Issue besteht aus 4 bis 6 Original-Forschungsartikeln und einer Einführung durch die Gastredaktion. Alle Artikel unterliegen einem doppelten Peer-Review und werden kostenfrei im Open Access veröffentlicht. Die Gastredaktion wird in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Redaktionskomitee das Sonderheft auswählen, begutachten und produzieren, das im Herbst 2026 erscheinen soll.

Vorschläge für ein Special Issue sollten ein einheitliches Thema von anthropologischer Relevanz haben. Sie können als Call for Papers oder als thematischer Überblick zusammen mit einer Liste möglicher Beiträge eingereicht werden.

The double consciousness of quantification. Ethnographic approaches to world representation with numbers

How are the numbers that circulate and that we access in the contemporary world produced? How is the work of configuring algorithms needed to process Big Data or Machine Learning carried out ? What do we know about the “social life of standards” or about ethnic and discrimination statistics ? This special issue starts from the idea that practicing an anthropology of quantification and statistical sciences is necessary to enrich the understanding of both epistemological positions and political arguments about the contemporary world. In particular, we look at the “dirty work” of producing numbers and the technical, engineering and scientific practices associated with it.
